Beware of scams against the unemployed

Unemployed folks face many pressures and are vulnerable to a variety of online scams because of their growing frustrations with being unable to find viable work. Two popular cons are selling insurance on commission and paying for advice on investing in a franchise. There are also work-at-home scams, educational ploys and other variations of all these things.

Below is the top portion of an e-mail I received today. I have gotten this one before. When I clicked the link to their site, there were feel-good pictures of families laughing in fields and older people smiling in front of inspiring sunsets. I guess they represent how satisfied people are with this online service.

I offer this posting as a warning that predators often hunt for the weak. Don't lose whatever resources you have left by falling for this junk. In tough times, bad people prey upon good people. My only hope is that one day these vultures will face some sort of cosmic payback.

Dear Mick,

I’d love to speak with you about your resume.

Despite recent economic conditions, a few industries have experienced success -
one of them being the franchise industry. I have been hired to (hand select)
and invite qualified individuals with managerial/leadership backgrounds (to
explore franchise opportunities). Based on your credentials, I feel you may be
a good fit.

  1. There's two a friend of mine ran into. One was an add for post office jobs; you send them 90 bucks they train you and send a list of jobs. Scam because job postings are on the usps.gov site. She reported it to the Postmaster General but the ads still show up. Another group appears to be a money laundering scheme. When she posed her first question, the "employer" prefaced her answer with "It's perfectly legal". Oh and they require access to your bank account.

What's interesting is there is a legit company called The Lime Group LLC but that's not who this is. Similar logo, similar company name but that's where the similarities end.

    Here's the site http://www.lime-groupsvc.com
    The email she got:

    Hello,

For the most part what the job requires is for someone to be available Monday - Friday, 9 to 11 am. Your main job would be monitoring your on-line Task Manager, which you’ll create on our site once you’re employed. Once the funds enter your account, your supervisor will notify you and assign you your tasks for the day. At this point you would go to your bank, withdraw the funds and transfer them using Western Union or Money Gram, as instructed by your supervisor.

You need bank account because this job is considered to be an Independent Contractor position, we require Financial Managers to use their own account during their probationary period. Once employed Full Time we would provide you with a bank account through our company.

Please read our FAQ here: www.lime-groupsvc.comYou'll find the answers to most questions. Please also follow this link to read to familiarize yourself with the detailed job description: www.lime-groupsvc.com

    Yours faithfully,
